We’re big fans of podcasts around here. I love having something to listen to while I’m getting ready in the morning, doing the dishes or running errands. And, unlike audiobooks, if I miss a minute or two because my mind wanders, it’s usually not a big deal. I don’t listen to podcasts that are particularly deep or hard-hitting, for the most part. For the most part we both choose entertaining, easy-listening podcasts.
Totally Married This is a podcast that we both listen to the morning it is released. Elizabeth and Andy chat about their lives and then take listener questions on relationship and life situations. They’re totally unqualified, I often disagree with their opinions, and I love it. (Honorable mention to Totally Laime which isn’t in production anymore, but the archives are still around and definitely worth a listen.)
Heather Dubrow’s World – We’re going to immediately admit that our podcast tastes align with our taste in television – light and trashy. Heather is my favorite of the Orange County housewives because I find her both relatable and unrelatable all at once. I mean, her house alone puts her in a financial league most of us will never understand. That being said, I think her podcast is total ear candy – even if I do think her “Hippest, Hottest, Newest” segment should be titled “Completely Bizarre and Probably Sponsored.”
Nerdist – There are a ton of channels under the Nerdist podcast umbrella, but this is the original and my favorite. This year they’ve scaled back to creating only one episode per week, but if you’re new to the Nerdist definitely scroll through the archives because odds are there’s something fantastic waiting for you. (Personal recommendations: Colin Hanks, Dominic Monaghan, Neil Patrick Harris and any of the Hostful episides.)
Straight Up with Stassi – Wendy swears you don’t need to be a fan of Vanderpump Rules to enjoy this pop-culture podcast (but it probably doesn’t hurt if you are.)
Allegedly – Even more reality stars! Wendy loves the competitive format of this podcast where the hosts compete to see who can tell the best story. Each episode features a guest including the likes of Dennis Quaid, The Miz (!), and Jason Ritter. Have you heard the buzz about Heather McDonald’s claims about working for Chelsea Handler? It happened right here on this podcast!
Gilmore Guys – I’m deep in a rewatch of Gilmore Girls and I love checking in to listen to Kevin, Demi and a guest chat about each episode in DEPTH. (I mean, really in depth. Some of these episodes top two hours in length!)
Startup – I enjoy this look at the process of starting a business. Each season takes on a new business and I’m dying for new episodes. While you wait, go back and listen to the first and second seasons. It’s a pretty brutally honest look at the growing pains of new businesses.
Brains On! – This is a pretty sharp left turn from all of the podcasts above, because this one is geared toward children. This science podcast takes topics like “Why are no two snowflakes the same?” and “Why does tickling make you laugh” and puts them into easily digestible 10-20 minute podcasts for children. I like them because they’re science-y enough to be interesting for me to listen to in the car with the kids, while being entertaining enough to keep my kids listening.
This isn’t the first time we’ve tackled the topic of our favorite podcasts. This time last year found us chatting about them too!

I didn’t even realise how much I needed a podcast talking about Gilmore Girls in my life until now, thanks for the great suggestions!
