I have an emotional reaction almost any time someone mentions The West Wing. I can’t stop myself from commenting how I think it’s one of the best shows ever on television, how much I just loved almost every minute of the show. I didn’t watch during it’s first run, instead watched over the course of about a year a few years ago and fell deeper and deeper in love with the show as I watched.
I think it’s a show that you should definitely give a chance, although Wendy has tried and just doesn’t find herself drawn into the story. To that I say just wait until the season finale of Season 1 my friend. I sobbed through the entirety of the first two episodes of Season 2 following the aftermath of “What Kind of Day Has it Been.”
Now I know not every must see show is for everyone. To prove that all you have to do is look at the fact that I don’t watch Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead and I never made it past season two of Breaking Bad. However, if you do give this show a chance, we’ve got everything you need to make the most of your binge watching experience.
The West Wing Weekly Podcast
I was thrilled by the announcement of The West Wing Weekly podcast. After the success of Gilmore Guys it was only a matter of time before someone came back and made a podcast recapping every single episode of The West Wing starting from the beginning. That the podcast is co-hosted by Joshua Malina, former TWW cast member makes it even better. His co-host Hrishi Hirway is new to me (but not new to podcast listeners as he also hosts Song Exploder) and is delightful on the podcast. The podcast has already had a number of special guests including Richard Schiff and Janel Moloney and listening to them rehash is the highlight of my Wednesday. If you’re a West Wing fan you absolutely must listen to their recording on TWW cast at the ATX Festival.
It is not too late to start listening to the podcast as they’re still in season 1. Time is on your side!
Bartlet for America
I was a little disappointed by the lack of merch available for West Wing fans. There are a million memes but not as many mugs as I might have liked. Still, I managed to find a few things to get you in the right frame of mind for a good rewatch, or first watch! Try it, I say!
What’s Next mug – Someone tell my husband to put this on my Christmas list
Decisions are Made print – A quote attributed to both Woody Allen and President Truman, but spoken by President Bartlet in the series finale.
For America shirt – Sure, these are everywhere, but I still want this one.
You’re a Rabble Rouser print – I adore CJ Cregg
Bartlet for America mug – Dare to dream.
West Wing fans weigh in in the comments! Tell Wendy to give it another chance! The West Wing is currently streaming all seasons on Netflix.
