I know summertime is supposed to be about entertaining the kids and #18summers but it also means later nights and day camp so mama has more free time on her hands to binge out on some new (to me) shows and a few old favorites. Hulu is bringing it. No, this is NOT sponsored. I wish it was because I’m giddy with how much great content there is to stream there and I’ve put together a list of my top three shows you can stream on Hulu right now.
Also, be sure to check my sophisticated ratings system for each show. Because sometimes I watch when my kid is around too and headphones come in real handy.
What to Stream on Hulu Right Now
UnREAL
You know how your friends on Facebook are always looking for suggestions on what to watch next? UnREAL is always a recommendation. In fact, Megan told me to watch this Lifetime show a few years back but at that time I had to get the Lifetime app to watch it and if it’s not on one of the big three streaming networks, I’m out. Lucky for me, UnREAL is now streaming all three seasons with the fourth and final season to be streamed on Hulu before Lifetime sometime in 2019.
UPDATE: Hulu released the final 8 episodes of UnReal mid-July 2018. Get Hulu here.
I am completely obsessed with UnREAL. It’s a fictional dumpster fire exposé on how reality television is created. Now, I LOVE reality TV and realize it’s not all organic but the manipulation has me shook and wondering how true to life it really is. Season one was real dark with a through line of mental instability of its main character. Season two started with a swell of girl power between the two female leads but ended quickly because they are garbage people. Look for the mental health storyline to continue and watch for these triggers: MAGA, BLM, police brutality, #metoo, infertility, female shaming and domestic violence. I’ve just started season three and it has a mild start, though I’m worried this is the calm before the storm.
If you like dark drama, I definitely recommend UnREAL. This show gets 5 out of 5 headphones for language and sex. Like woah.

The Bold Type
Season two of this millennial Sex and the City is currently airing on Freeform. Season one is available on Hulu and each new episode from the new season is available the day after it airs. This was another recommendation by Megan. I liked season one of The Bold Type. I did think the storylines dragged a little but they make the life of three twenty-somethings living, working and dating in New York city look fun – just like SATC but in 2018. In season two we begin to better understand who our three heroines are but a Carrie hasn’t emerged yet. Like, I’m not sure I can care about all three characters going forward. In fact, I am more invested in the storyline of Jacqueline Carlyle who is the editor-in-chief of Scarlet magazine. Maybe because I’m closer in age to her instead of the three best friends.
What I really like about The Bold Type is how supportive their editor is to the growth and success of the main characters. It’s kind a breath of fresh in a world of toxic masculinity and a complete 180° from the mentor/mentee relationship in UnREAL.
This show gets 4 out of 5 headphones for sex.

Vanderpump Rules
This reality television series airs regularly on Bravo and in full disclosure I have seen every episode three to four times over. This is my throw on show. Meaning, when I want company while getting ready or sitting at the computer paying the bills, I turn on Vanderpump Rules. Hulu currently has seasons 1-5 available and I would expect the most current season to be available later this summer or fall.
#PumpRules is basically the Real Housewives franchise but twenty years younger. Lots of alcohol, cheating, backstabbing, marriages and breakups all while serving Pumptinis at SUR. I find myself strangely invested in their lives and this is why I keep coming back for more.
Vanderpump Rules gets 1 out of 5 headphones for season one and then 3 out of 5 for the remaining season for language.
It’s been the summer of Hulu for me. If you are looking for a couple of good shows to binge watch, I definitely suggest starting with the three I told you about above. I also highly recommend The Last Defense from ABC which has a limited release on Hulu for those who like true crime and all four seasons of the college drama Felicity, which for some reason, I can’t consume at the rate I do with other shows.
Next up for me is a British reality relationship series called Love Island. Fingers crossed this show is reminiscent of Temptation Island. Leave us a comment below if you watched that train wreck reality show. I obviously loved it.
