Without giving too much away – because we would love for you to listen to it, Megan and I talked openly during episode two of our podcast about self care during an election cycle. Why is a Self-Care Plan Important?
Self care is important because “we are more resilient and more able to handle life’s stress when we are feeling our best both physically and emotionally.” (source) A self-care plan works to prepare one for stressors and triggers. Without an action plan you might end up overwhelmed, burned out or even sick.
Why Self Care During an Election Cycle?
A self-care plan isn’t just during an election cycle. Having an action plan to combat any stressful situation is a good idea. Self care plans for the holidays, planning a wedding, preparing for a move, looking for a new job, during a global pandemic are all good times to have one.
If the 2020 election isn’t a personal stressor, yay you.
Four Categories of Self Care
Self-care can be broken into four categories: emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual. Read this article from the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute to see examples of what self care looks like within each of those elements.
Is a Pedicure Self-Care?
Yes, pedicures can be considered a form of self care. Taking time for yourself is an important component to self-care and what you do with that time is your choice. But, self care is more about substance. It’s about laying a solid foundation to handle triggers and stress, ultimately leading to your overall well-being and health.
This is a great article by Katie Bingham-Smith that explains why women need more than trips to the salon.
