If you caught our recent enormous drug store haul then you know that we picked up a ton of new lip products. Last week we shared swatches of all of the matte lip products we picked up, along with our opinions. Today we’re back with our opinions of some new lip gloss from the drugstore.
We have four brands in a few different colors and I think there was only one real winner in the bunch. I’m truly surprised because lip gloss and glossy balms are my personal favorites. I had fun with the matte liquid lipsticks, but I reach for glosses and balms in my everyday life.
Let’s run through our thoughts on these, shall we? (Affiliate links ahead.)
First up are the Maybelline Baby Lips Color Balm Crayon. I am a sucker for the Baby Lips line, even though all I’ve every really liked from them are the sheer balms. These are anything but sheer and they come in several nearly neon colors. Although the formula of these was really nice and they went on beautifully, I just wasn’t a fan of either color. I may sing a different tune in midsummer, but these just weren’t working for me.
Normally a sheer gloss with a tiny bit of color is my favorite thing in the world, but these got a big NOPE from us. First of all, the wand is hard to get in and out of the tube. Secondly, the formula is so sticky that applying this is a nightmare. Finally, the color payoff is almost non-existent. We’ll be passing on these.
Finally, the winner of the bunch! These were exactly what I was looking for – a sheer wash of color, SPF, a great scent, and a moisturizing formula. I have used these daily since the filming of this video and would absolutely pick up more colors.
Our opinions on this new lip stain from e.l.f are problematic because I bought this thinking it looked like a lip gloss, but I didn’t read the packaging. It’s actually a lip stain, and while I think it works fine as a stain it is very sticky, which I don’t love. Also, I really wanted it to be a lip gloss and it fails in that regard. Because, of course, it’s not meant to be a lip gloss.
Ultimately, I was surprised that I didn’t love more of these, as it doesn’t take much for me to fall in love with a lip gloss. That said, there are TONS of great lip glosses and balms at the drugstore already. Perhaps we need to do a roundup of our tried and true favorites? Which ones do you love?
