I’m not like most moms. I’m a cool mom. I am absolutely cringing typing out “modest swimsuits for teens” as the title of this post. But today I’m sharing some very cute yet modest swimwear choices for teenage girls and how we got here. This post was updated in spring 2023.
Cute One-Piece Swimsuits for Teen Girls
Here’s the deal: my new teenager is off to sleep away camp and there are certain parameters set forth by the camp regarding swimsuits for girls. With a sigh of relief, I’m happy to report that the boys also have certain restrictions. The camp wants all of the kids to adhere to their modesty rules, and thankfully, or I’d have to get my granny panties all up in a bunch.

Swimsuit shopping for a 13 year old isn’t as easy as it seems. Everything lately has a plunging bikini top or a cheeky bottom – or both. And when I say I’m a cool mom, it means I’m ok with the current styles – within reason. I was a teenager in the 90s after all. Look at them girls with the daisy dukes on, I want you to…
What is a Modest Swimsuit?
But then came the email from camp outlining the details of what is appropriate swimwear for campers. My daughter and I pulled out the bathing suit bin and there was not one camp-approved swimsuit in the bunch. What she said next surprised me.
My daughter shared that she wasn’t exactly comfortable in most of the swimsuits she owned. I was shook. We shopped for these bathing suits together. Yet, she never grabbed for one of them when going to the pool or beach. I chalked it up as another piece of clothing that she had to have and then decided she really didn’t like it. I did not realize she wasn’t comfortable in them.
Where to Buy Cute Modest Swimsuits
So together we set out to find a swimsuit she felt cute and comfortable in. Something that would work not only for camp, but also swimming, surfing or just hanging out this summer. We hit every misses’ and juniors’ departments looking for suits that weren’t so revealing. I’m not a girl, not yet a woman. Our go-to stores like Target and Old Navy had very limited selection. We were striking out everywhere and camp week neared.
I wouldn’t normally drop $100 on a swimsuit for my teenager because I know how thrashed it will get by summer’s end. But, guess what I did? Yep, I dropped $100. We found Summersalt has a bunch of great options that she liked and ordered several so she could try them on and see how they felt.
Beaming Confidence = Winning Swimsuit
When she tried them on it was like confidence was beaming out of her. Before, she’d sit hunched over, adjusting and readjusting, and tugging at straps. Instead, she stood tall, danced around her bedroom, elated that she had finally found a swimsuit that made her feel comfortable. Can’t we all relate to having that feeling at some point in our lives, right?
I wholeheartedly agreed she had to have these bathing suits. Thirteen is a tender age. I want her to have a fun summer free from worry about how she’s feeling in her swimsuits.

Modest Swimsuits from Amazon
We also found some cute, two-piece bikini swimsuits from CUPSHE on Amazon. This brand has a wide range of styles but my daughter really liked the fit of a few of the bandeau bikinis (they also come with straps). They offer great coverage on top and aren’t especially cheeky, plus are still playful and super affordable.
