We love a good challenge around here, so for the month of June we’re putting ourselves on a no-spend. Care to join us? The rules will be different for everyone, because only you know your budget and needs best. For me it means that we’ll still be doing fun stuff with the kids – we only have one more week of school and it would be cruel to announce that we’re not picking up ice cream or going to the movies. However, I need nothing. I don’t need a $7 shirt from Target or even a $4 coffee from Starbucks. I don’t need a new nail polish or lip gloss. I don’t need ANY of it.
Wendy is reluctantly playing along, although she strongly objects to my no-coffee rule.
I spent some time last week decluttering my closet. I donated three bags of clothes that I just don’t ever wear and made a stack of clothes that I would love to wear, but don’t. They need ironing or hemming and they just end up mixed in with laundry and everything else. I have a bag for the tailor in my car and a stack of ironing just waiting for me to get the energy to deal with them. Normally paring down what I own would make me want more, but in this case I was hoping for the opposite. I did this so I could actually see what I own, and while I would like new stuff, no one could say that I need anything.
We also both recently purged and reorganized our beauty supplies and have committed to shopping from our own stash this month. We’ll post an update next month on how this is going. Do you want to play along? Let us know in the comments below if you’re joining.
