In Southern California spring and summer sort of run together (and spill over well into what the rest of the world knows as fall.) This time is our pool and beach season and it has officially begun. I’m writing this on the heels of our first pool party and looking ahead to our Spring Break trip to Hawaii. While these things have my kids dreaming about dinners in swimsuits by the pool and staying up well past bedtime to enjoy the extra sunshine it has me thinking about preparing to live in my swim suit on weekends and school breaks for the forseeable future.
I am a naturally fair skinned lady, which I think is somewhat fortunate because my skin doesn’t tan naturally on its own, which means that I have no incentive to skimp on the sunscreen. I like high SPF, shade, and loose, flowy cover-ups at the pool. That doesn’t mean that I don’t long for a little bit of color, I just take a little help from WalMart on this one.
I started by stocking up on JERGENS® Natural Glow® +FIRMING Daily Moisturizer. I’ve used the gradual glow moisturizer in the past, but when I saw it was available in a firming formula it seemed like a no-brainer to go that route. This year I’m prepping for my tan with JERGENS® Natural Glow® Color Primer In-Shower Scrub to get things good and exfoliated for an even application.
I start with the primer in the shower paying extra attention to knees and elbows as those areas have a tendency to be a little bit more dry. I use the gradual glow moisturizer as I would my normal post-shower lotion making sure to use it sparingly over the knees and elbows. (You can also moisturize these areas in advance to make sure they don’t soak up too much color.)
Finally, I treat myself to a pedicure. I’ll do it at home for the rest of the summer, but there’s something special about that first pedicure of the season. I choose a bright, happy color and it makes me want to wear sandals and dip my toes into the pool. For me, half the battle in enjoying myself during the summer is feeling comfortable in my (much more exposed) skin. A tan, pretty nails and a little lip gloss go a long way toward boosting my confidence.
I’ll use the glow moisturizer for several days prior to our Hawaii trip and then toss it in my suitcase and use it every few days while we’re there to keep up my glow.
