I recently stumbled across a listing for a Halloween Advent Calendar, or – more appropriately – a Halloween Countdown Calendar, and my eyes lit up!
The anticipation that comes with an Advent calendar makes me so happy. I look forward to seeing the new Advent calendars that are released every year. If you know our family, you know we have an Advent calendar that we use to countdown to Christmas. It is easily one of our favorite things about the holiday. The four of us share the calendar and we give each other small thoughtful gifts throughout the season.
In addition, when my kids were tiny, my mom bought them keepsake Advent calendars that she fills every year. We all look forward to these traditions eagerly. So, the idea of adding that fun and anticipation to the Halloween season definitely appealed to me.
If you know me, you also know that I am typically a Halloween Scrooge. I can’t really put my finger on what part of the holiday is so off-putting for me, but Halloween just really isn’t my thing.
However, holiday decorating and holiday traditions ARE my thing, so when there’s any way to make this holiday more fun in a way that I enjoy, I’m on board. (As opposed to making it more fun by visiting a haunted house – NO THANK YOU.)
As with their Christmas counterparts, Halloween Countdown Calendars run the gamut in cost, and most require you to fill them yourself. It’s Halloween after all, so a small candy every day will do the trick. Since these seem to be a relatively new concept, I would expect more brands to get on board with consumable Halloween calendars in the coming years.
