Holiday decorating fever has a pattern in my house. First, the decor hits the stores, usually in late August. By mid-September we’re in the mood for a change from summer, so we start eyeing the displays in all of our favorite stores.
We make mental lists of the things we want and we start talking about when we should put the decorations up. It’s hard to get in the mood for Halloween when we’re still taking two showers a day because of all of the sweating, but we manage. (True story, my husband and had this exact conversation today, in the pool, while it was a balmy 97 degrees.)
In early October we pull out our decorations and realize we need another pumpkin in our house like a hole in our heads.
You know the drill, for me, Halloween is just a placeholder until Christmas. It’s fine as far as holidays go, but I always say it could fall right off the calendar and I wouldn’t miss it. (I have grudgingly started to dress up, and I’m actually looking forward to this year’s costume.)
I do love decorating for a holiday though, so if it’s too early for Christmas trees, I’ll take what I can get. I love a themed scented candle with all of my basic heart and my mantel decor is usually fall foliage and old photos of my two kids in their Halloween costumes of years past.
Etsy Halloween Decor
Our usual stops for new holiday decor are Target and Pottery Barn, but this year I turned my eyes to Etsy so that we could maybe have a few things that aren’t on everyone else’s table.
You’ll see that my Halloween tastes veer towards all things cute rather than terrifying. I may celebrate Halloween but I do it with very strict parameters. No fake blood or skulls for me!
Happy Halloween!
