My daughter is an animal loving kiddo who wants just about every single thing she sees in stores and on television, with the front-runners changing daily. Her number one wish list item is a pet – any pet really although top of her list is a cat. I’m sorry to say that we won’t be making this particular wish come true but we have found a few other ways to appeal to her animal loving heart. Let’s cross our fingers and hope she’s sufficiently distracted and doesn’t notice that any of these toys aren’t actually alive. Updated for 2021.
I think it’s safe to say that she would be thrilled with any of the items on this list. Click on any photo below to shop from your favorite retailer. Affiliate links.
Kids Who Love Animals Will Love These
Pound Puppies are BACK! They look just like the puppies I remember from my childhood and I’m so glad to see them available this year!
Little Live Pets – Someone who knows my girl very well got her these little guys for her birthday and she loves them!
Sew Mini Animals – For the animal lover who’s also a bit crafty. These sets are also available in versions with treats, and a mini bake shop!
Chubby Puppies – This was my daughter’s number one request from Santa last year thanks to the commercials. I have to admit that the puppies crack me up as they cruise around their little play area and my girl loves them which is, of course, the best part.
Warmies Microwavable Pet – My kids both got these for Christmas last year from my mom. They have a nice weight to them, and you can pop them in the microwave for one minute to warm them up. They also have a subtle lavender scent, so they’re perfect for bedtime.
Melissa and Doug Examine & Treat Pet Vet – This is a 24-piece play set that comes with a plush cat and dog, plus pretend medical equipment to play veterinarian. Great for kids ages 3+.
Robot Pets and Electronics
FurReal Interactive Toys – Did someone say interactive animals that move and sound like the real thing? FurReal has cats, puppies, unicorns, panda bears and more to choose from.
Zoomer Interactive Animals – Zoomer robot pets aren’t as plush as FurReal tons of animal options are available for the 5-7 year old crowd. Zebras, bunnies, puppies and hedgehogs.
Echo Dot for Kids – Amazon has done it again with these adorable Echo Dots with animal faces. This purchase includes a year of Amazon FreeTime as well as a whole host of parental controls that allow you to choose what they have access to!
American Girl Willa Wellie Wisher – One of the newer lines from American Girl are these adorable Wellie Wishers. They’re all wearing wellies of course, and we love Willa, the animal lover. We especially love the hedgehogs on her skirt!
Books and Games for Animal Loving Kids
National Geographic Animal Encyclopedia – We love the wide variety of books NatGeo puts out for kids. Their Big Books of Why are also huge hits around here.
Guess in 10: Animal Planet – Similar to 20 questions, this is a family card game where players ask up to 10 questions specific to the animal on the playing card. Great for drives, super easy to play.
Poop Bingo – Tell me your kids won’t LOVE this game that shows all of the different types of animal poop. There’s truly something for everyone out there.
Fascinating Animal Book For Kids – My kids LOVE to regale me with facts about just about anything from the backseat of the car.
Critter Club Books – For your early chapter book reader, we love these Critter Club books. These are great for readers who are ready to move on to longer books, but still enjoy illustrated pages. An added bonus is that there are tons of books in this series, so your reader will have plenty to choose from.
Dog Ate My Mad Libs – The perfect stocking stuffer for your little animal lover.

I was in Toys R Us yesterday and people were acting ridiculous already over the Hatchimals. My daughter wants one but she’s already been told that that is an unlikely on her list because we have already done the furby and all and she lost interest in that really quick. She was more than happy to add all the new Ever After high Stuff and a Wellie Wishers doll to her list. Thanks so much for a great and helpful giveaway this time of year!!!
