We are so close to publishing this year’s summer reading guide and I am SO excited. There is no better time of year than summer reading time. But! Before we get there, I took a little stroll down our past summer reading guides and pulled out a few favorites.
Often, our summer reading guides are full of new and recent releases. These are the books getting all of the buzz and they’re the books I’m most excited for. But library users know the sting of long waiting lists for popular new releases. It’s always nice to be able to add books to your wait list that you have a chance of actually getting to read while it’s still technically summer. (Psst! If you’re looking for ways to read books for free, we’ve got you covered.)
With that in mind, a few books that are several years old, but great reads nonetheless.
Six Great Books to Add to Your Summer Reading List
The Proposal – And, for that matter, anything by Jasmine Guillory. She writes romance novels with quick witted characters and I love the way she manages to make the food in her books a character of its own.
Dark Matter – This is a brain twisty sort of book that leaves you saying, “What is HAPPENING?” but also utterly engrossed.
The Kiss Quotient – A few years ago we were all talking about this steamy book and if you missed it then, definitely add it to your list now!
When Dimple Met Rishi – Perhaps this is breaking news, as it was news to me, but this book was the inspiration behind the series Mismatched on Netflix. I had no idea and now I have to go watch it. Since reading this I have made my way through Sandhya Melon’s other books (there are two additional books in the Dimple and Rishi universe) and have enjoyed many of them, but I think When Dimple Met Rishi is my favorite.
While we’re here, don’t miss my list of my favorite books to read when I can’t seem to focus on anything!
The Upside of Unrequited – I read this book on a plane and absolutely could not put it down. This is definitely a feel good story full of teen angst. While there is a love story, there is also resolution in a sister relationship that really brings this book home for me.
The President’s Daughter Series – When I went to find the link for this book I discovered that there’s a new release by the same name coming out this summer. I am not referring to that book, although I will probably read the new release by James Patterson and Bill Clinton – sometimes it’s nice to know exactly what to expect from a book.
No, I’m talking about the series by Ellen Emerson White. While this book, featuring a female POTUS, was a bit of a gut punch to read in the aftermath of the 2016 election, it’s an engrossing series that centers around the kidnapping of the President’s daughter, and the complicated aftermath.
