I am the sort of person who looks forward to getting ready in the morning. I rarely leave the house without makeup, and I genuinely enjoy the process of putting on makeup, especially if I have a new product to try. Most days my beauty routine is pretty simple and I can get my makeup done in about five minutes. However, on days we’ll be filming video, I make sure to put a little extra effort into my look. After two and a half years of making video, we’ve learned a few things about getting camera-ready.
Go full coverage.
Video days are not the time for a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. For seemingly flawless skin, choose a more full coverage foundation to even out your skin tone and give the rest of your makeup a nice base.
It’s all about the eyes.
I don’t go for particularly intense eye makeup in my day to day life. No one is expecting me to do school pickup with winged eyeliner, that’s for sure. However, if I want my eyes to pop on camera I make sure to bring out my eyes by using an eyeliner. Afraid of eyeliner? Here’s a hack: Use an angled brush and press some eyeshadow in along your lash line. It’s much easier than eyeliner and gives a great smokey look!
Don’t be afraid of a bold lip!
We have many, many videos where I look back and I look so washed out and it all comes down to my lip color. If I’m wearing something in my everyday color range it’s just not going to show on camera. Instead, I step outside of my comfort zone and go bolder and brighter. It always looks a little intense in person, but it looks fantastic on camera!
Brighten those teeth.
Your teeth are on full display as you talk and smile and you want to make sure they’re looking their best as well. We like Colgate® Optic White® RADIANT™ Toothpaste, which is a new launch that we can easily grab on a weekly grocery run to Ralph’s, as part of our morning and evening routine. This toothpaste is enamel safe for daily use, and safely whitens both the inside and outside of your teeth.
It’s all an illusion!
We always film multiple videos in a day to maximize our time. To keep it from being obvious that we get weeks worth of work out of one morning, we make small changes to our look. We’ll change shirts, jewelry, lip color and hair styles in between videos just to keep things interesting.
We would love to hear your best tips for preparing to go in front of the camera! Leave us a comment below and let us know how you prepare in the morning. Don’t forget to pick up Colgate® Optic White® RADIANT™ Toothpaste at your local Kroger for a radiant, white smile.

I’m always afraid to wear a bold lip color. It makes sense that it would work when you are on video, though!

Yes, I always think it looks a little insane in person and then on camera it looks AMAZING! Colors I would honestly never wear out in public look incredible on camera.
